WhatsApp notifications

WhatsApp is a major part of the storefront fulfillment experience. It is used for first-order updates, order-state messaging, and later linking eligible guest orders into a signed-in customer account.

What this flow covers

  • The first WhatsApp update after checkout
  • The success-page message preview
  • What happens when the customer signs in later
  • Linking guest orders by WhatsApp verification
  • Order-history prompts for customers who do not yet have a saved WhatsApp number

Initial order updates

1. Complete checkout with a WhatsApp-capable number

The storefront prefers a WhatsApp or phone number during guest checkout because that number can be used for pickup updates.

2. Review the success-page WhatsApp preview

After order creation, the success page shows a preview of the message shape used for the first order update.

3. Confirm the customer-facing update state

The platform can show toast or confirmation messaging indicating that WhatsApp updates are on the way, or warn when the first customer message could not be sent.

4. Open Orders after signing in

When a signed-in customer is missing a saved WhatsApp number, the orders page can show a Link my WhatsApp orders prompt.

This flow verifies the number used during guest checkout and attaches matching eligible guest orders to the signed-in account.

6. Enter the same mobile number used during guest checkout

The linking page tells the customer to use the same number they used for guest checkout or WhatsApp claim.

7. Send and enter the WhatsApp verification code

The flow sends a one-time code to WhatsApp and then verifies it before linking the matching orders.

8. Review post-checkout guest linking actions

Guest orders can expose a direct next step to create an account or link to an existing account after checkout.

9. Use the WhatsApp claim flow when prompted

If the storefront uses the guest WhatsApp claim flow, it sends a one-time code to the WhatsApp number captured during guest checkout and then links the order to the right profile.

What the customer should expect

  • The original order still succeeds even if the customer skips account linking.
  • Linking is about future convenience and order history, not making the current order valid.
  • Using the same WhatsApp number across guest checkout and account settings makes order history much easier to connect.
